I attended an all-staff meeting for Church of Highlands since Mike is now the Registrar at Highlands College. That is where I first heard the song Gratitude by Brandon Lakes. Part of the lyrics read this way:
So come on my soul, oh, don’t you get shy on me
Lift up your song, ‘cause you’ve got a lion
Inside of those lungs
Anyone who really knows me knows that I am really shy. I am a true introvert who does not like to be on display. It makes me nervous and anxious. But since I was a young teenager, I have known God called me into ministry. All I have ever wanted to do was serve Him in the way He created me. When you follow God with reckless abandon, it can sound like a lion’s roar. It can make some people afraid. It can even make the one who needs to roar afraid. But there is a call to obedience. And I need to follow Him, no matter what. So, I will finish the song:
Get up and praise the Lord, hey
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord
Praise the Lord
So I throw up my hands
Praise You again and again
‘Cause all that I have is a
Hallelujah, hallelujah
And I know it’s not much
But I’ve nothing else fit for a king
Except for a heart singing
Hallelujah, hallelujah
So come on my soul, oh, don’t you get shy on me
Lift up your song, ‘cause you’ve got a lion
Inside of those lungs
It’s okay to roar. For me. And for you. You’ve got a lion inside of those lungs.
